Defining Tomorrow: ANS Head Office

Creating a Space for the Future

People of the past often imagined the future would feel very high tech, complete with automations of astonishing convenience. In fact, this would gradually sever the link between person and environment, and end with the loss of self. We have taken advantage of the ANS Head Office to reflect upon the relationship between people and their work, their space. A space is a vessel that responds to the user’s needs, while it is the people themselves that truly bring style and character to a place.

The ANS Head Office, designed by Ahead Concept Design, is a testament to the power of simplicity and human interaction. This office space of tomorrow uses seemingly minimal design to catalyze interaction between people and their environment. By making good use of raw materials and creating a deliberately natural feel, the office exudes a slightly conflicted sense of cool elegance.

The unique design of the ANS Head Office is characterized by its stark, primitive atmosphere. The bare ceilings, self-leveling cement floor, and the natural fluctuations of light, shadow, and color from the trees outside create a space that seemingly has no design. However, upon closer inspection, large amounts of unvarnished raw materials such as wood veneer, crude iron componentry, and unpolished galvanized iron are used to construct a slightly sci-tech atmosphere while preserving traces of the renovation process.

Once users enter the space, they become the catalysts for a spotlight reaction within the office. Their presence, combined with the interior design, completes the sense of value. The ANS Head Office recognizes that people and space, space and environment, and environment and materials are all indivisible and interdependent. This understanding is reflected in the fluidity and functionality of the office, where interactive relationships become secondary to a kind of chemical reaction that occurs with practical daily use.

The ANS Head Office project started in May 2015 in Taipei and was completed in September 2015. It is a result of extensive research and a reevaluation of what kind of workspace might reflect futurity. The design team at Ahead Concept Design sought to create a space that embraces genuine simplicity and conserves the surrounding environment. By doing so, they accentuated the style and character of the office, making it a unique and inspiring place to work.

The ANS Head Office has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity. In 2018, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The ANS Head Office stands as a testament to the power of simplicity and human interaction in creating a workspace for the future.
